Current Coordinates

Most of my background with personalized learning and social media in learning came from my schooling. Throughout many of my high school projects we relied heavily on the use of technology. The use of technology increased even more in university. Every course has its own brightspace, we submit all of our assignments digitally, and even entire courses (like this one) were fully online. For myself I find this digital change to make certain aspects a lot easier. With the brightspace app I get notifications directly to my phone about when new materials are posted and also when assignments are getting close to being due and as someone with ADHD this is extremely helpful. I think the skill that I am best at would be teaching. As I am going into Education I’ve clearly gained a passion for teaching others. Throughout my life I have been very involved with educating others. Even as a kid I remember always wanting to play pretend teacher with my younger sister.

Mapping the route

I think I would like to ensure that I have the most skills possible to be a great teacher for all my future students. As an educator I believe it is extremely important  to keep your skills fresh and evolving as you go further in your career. The specific concept I am most excited to explore is about personalized learning and its relation to learning theory. I am always most interested in how people learn and how differently it can be for everyone. The way that I best learn is going to be different from the way anyone else learns best. As a future educator this is something that I am very interested in learning so I can best support my students. Another concept I am interested in is about using GenAI appropriately as a tool to support creative activities. I am generally quite against AI because of its environmental and educational impacts on the world. Though I do understand that this is seemingly becoming a major thing in the world. I want to better understand how to ethically use AI in a way that supports learning and creativity rather than destroys it. I would say that my goals are very similar to the course objectives. All of the course objectives correlate to what I am interested to learn within this class.

Anticipating turbulence

I am most intimidated by using teams and the course website. I have gotten very accustomed to using brightspace and haven’t had to use any other tool for school in a very long time. I am unfamiliar with both teams and the course website so I am a bit worried that I won’t be able to figure it out. to combat this I plan to take a deep dive into the course website and learn exactly how it works. I also plan to learn a bit more about Microsoft Teams and how to use it. I think this extra time dedicated to learning the course tools will really help me feel confident going forward in this course.
